Dr. Katy Phelan recently visited and spoke with the medical genetics department at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia this past April 2006. The genetic counselor there wanted to do a "Genetic Challenge" on Phelan-McDermid syndrome - this has widespread circulation and hopefully will increase awareness about the syndrome.
